As a diversification initiative, NLC India Limited (NLCIL) is setting up a Lignite to Methanol Project at Neyveli with a capacity of 1200 TPD (0.40 MTPA) at capital cost of about Rs 4400 Crore. Engineers India Limited (EIL) is a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the project.
As the World moves towards cleaner forms of energy and India being a signatory to the Paris Agreement, 2016 has pledged to attain reduction in emissions intensity of GDP by 33-35% by 2030 from 2005 level and our country would become carbon neutral to achieve net zero emissions by the year 2070. This project is aligning with the commitment and supporting Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision under “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat to achieve a target of 100 MT Coal Gasification by 2030 for eco-friendly utilisation of the fuel, which is abundantly available in the country.
On October 22, 2022, Global Tender Enquiry is floated for NLCIL through Project Management Consultant EIL, for Gasification block (LEPC-1) of Lignite to Methanol Project in the august presence of DR. Anil Kumar Jain, Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Coal, Shri. Amit Lal Meena, Officer on Special Duty, Ministry of Coal, Shri. Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL along with Smt. Vartika Shukla, CMD, EIL, and other Directors of both NLCIL and EIL in New Delhi.
This Project is expected to be commissioned during 2027.
