History

1965

Engineers India Limited was incorporated pursuant to a formation agreement between Govt. of India and Bechtel International Corporation, USA.

1965

Commenced work in Refineries segment with Madras Refinery project.

1967

Became a wholly owned Government of India company.

1969

Expansion to Petrochemicals with Aromatics and Olefins projects at Vadodara for IPCL (now Reliance Industries Ltd)

1974

EIL took its first steps into the space and defence sectors with assignments for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).

1979

EIL was entrusted with the design, fabrication and erection supervision of Bombay High North (BHN), then the largest offshore process platform in India.

1986

The first 29,000 TPA Propylene Recovery Plant designed by EIL entirely on its own knowhow for Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd., Kochi was commissioned.

1986

EIL executed India’s largest pipeline network, the 1800 km Hazira-Bijapur-Jagdishpur (HBJ) Gas pipeline and its subsequent 505 km Gas Rehabilitation and Expansion Project for GAIL.

1993

EIL executed the Gujarat Hydrocraker Project at Baroda of IOCL which involved India's first Hydrocracker unit of 1.2 million TPA capacity.

1994

ISO 9001 certification for quality management systems.

1994

EIL formed a wholly owned subsidiary company, Certification Engineers International Limited, to widen the customer base for certification and third party inspection services.

1997

Accorded the Mini Ratna status

Equity shares of the Company were listed on the BSE and NSE

2004

EIL participated in the Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica, for carrying out the Structural Assessment of India’s permanent scientific research station – Maitri.

2006

Commenced services in Sub-surface Crude Oil Storages (Vizag, Padur & Mangalore)

2010

Successful FPO of 33.6 Million shares of Rs.5 each

2011 - 2013

Diversification into water and Expansion into fertilizers projects in overseas territories viz., Bangladesh & Indonesia

2014

Conferred the prestigious "Navratna" status by the Govt. of India with effect from 24.06.2014.

2014

Largest ever overseas order from Dangote Group, Nigeria for a grassroot 650,000 BPSD Petroleum Refinery and 830,000 TPA Polypropylene Plant in Lekki Free Trade Zone near Lagos, Nigeria.

2015

Asset Ownership in Fertilizer Segment with formation of Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL), a Joint Venture of EIL, NFL & FCIL.

2015

As part of Golden Jubilee celebrations, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India releases Coffee Table Book and commemorative Postage Stamp.

Divestment of 10% equity of Government of India through an Offer for Sale (OFS)

EIL Shares of Buy back.

2019

Awarded first refinery consultancy project in Mongolia under LOC funding.

2020

Acquisition of minority stake in Numaligarh Refinery Ltd.

2022

EIL declared 2035 as the year to achieve Net Zero, aiming towards fulfilling Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision for India to be a Net Zero nation by 2070.
