Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a transformational initiative launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. Responding to the clarion call by Hon’ble Prime Minister for a Swachh Bharat, Engineers India Limited (EIL), a Navratna Company, joined the nation in launching the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” on October 2, 2014.

Sustaining the momentum in the ensuing years, EIL has undertaken number of initiatives including providing basic amenity of safe and clean toilets to a large segment of the Indian population especially the girl students under Swachh Vidyalaya Program. EIL has constructed 509 school toilets for girls and boys in the states of Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Assam. Separate toilets were planned for girls and boys in schools, some of which are located in very remote areas.

From the past two financial years, EIL has wholeheartedly participated in the movement towards attaining the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Number of activities including cleanliness drives in and around office premises, poster/slogan/essay competitions are regularly organised at all offices of the company across the country which has witnessed enthusiastic participation of all employees.

Swachh Bharat Pakhwadas are organized every year under the initiative. As part of the Swachhata Pakhwada activities, EILians continued to pool in their zealous efforts in pursuit of the ultimate goal of Swachh Bharat by carrying out cleanliness drives in the areas adjoining the Company’s Head Office at Bhikaiji Cama Place, New Delhi. As part of the Pakhwada celebrations, Swachhata Shapath is administered to all employees and competitions conducted for spreading awareness.

In addition to the Swachhta Pakhwada Celebrations, EIL has been regularly undertaking numerous activities around the year. Details of the program/activities/initiatives undertaken by EIL towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan are as follows:

Swachh Vidyalaya Program

To help provide the basic amenity of safe and clean toilets to a large segment of the Indian population especially the women, EIL adopted 509 school toilets in the states of Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Assam for construction and repair. Separate toilets were planned for girls and boys in schools, some of which are located in very remote areas. With active involvement of the local, state and central govt., construction of all toilets was achieved before schedule. (Photographs are attached in Annexure)

Shramdan

EIL officers have been participating enthusiastically in cleanliness drives that are organized on a regular basis in and around the Head Office, adjoining traffic islands and various site premises. The site wise details of Shramdan activities undertaken by EIL employees across all its offices are informed to MoP&NG in monthly e-sameeksha reports. EIL’s cleanliness efforts have also been aligned with existing CSR initiatives for ensuring wholesome transformation of targeted areas. As a step in this direction, a cleanliness drive was organized in and around Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram at Badarpur, Delhi, an old age home of Saint Hardayal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society (SHEOWS), on October 31, 2015 with officers from EIL zealously participating in cleaning the premises.

Cleanliness and Sanitation

Inspection of toilets and floors in office premises is undertaken almost daily/weekly at all EIL offices. Detailed Reports are received from site In-charges via EIL’s Field Personnel Cell (FPC) and Administration personnel at EIL HO /Gurgaon.
